Summer, my favorite time of the year! Summer in Houston, Texas was always hot and sticky. When I was a little kid we had no air conditioning. In the late afternoon, my Mama would turn on the sprinklers and when the breeze blew over the wet grass, it was quite comfortable. Our family had a yellow convertible and on hot nights, Papa would take us on a drive in the country and we would park and watch the trains go by. Then we would stop and get an ice cream cone. Life was much simpler then.

Tipp Monroe Community Services tries to make life easy for you in these not so simple times. We have planned fun programs at the park for kids, ages 4-10 years. Sign up for a week of Medieval Mania or CSI-Tipp City. Ms. Renner wants to teach you how to do the electric slide and PaperAlice has a whole kids craft camp designed for the 10 – 15 year olds.

Summer isn’t all about hot temperatures and school vacations, it conjures up images of full-blooming nature, fluttering butterflies and night time crickets and fireflies. There is a whole section in the class listing dedicated to you Green Thumb people. The Master Gardener Program is coming to Tipp City in 2009 but we are going to whet your appetite by offering a taste of what is to come; “Good Bugs versus Bad Bugs”, “Houseplants are your Friends”, “Pruning Ornamentals” and “Creating a Butterfly Garden” and more. Check out the whole section and sign up for something that will breathe new inspiration into your creative spirit.

Enjoy the warm days and nights, the fourth of July, Ohio sweet corn and the fun and freedom of summer, but be sure you include some of the classes and activities that we have to offer. You never know what you are missing.
